Regarding incontinence
The taboo of incontinence
Incontinence can be a sensitive subject for customers and your staff alike. For many, it’s a condition associated with shame and guilt. But that changes when people know more about the subject – just by knowing that incontinence is a common condition affecting both young and old can be of great help to a customer.
With the right information and support, you can give your customers understanding advice, and a satisfying answer with the product that best fits their needs.

Building loyalty through sound product advice
When you and your staff give your customers understanding support and sound product advice, you help them enormously. Not just in terms of providing a product that improves the quality of their life, but also the manner in which you professionally and sensitively address a subject that can be difficult for them to discuss. That sort of understanding touch will be appreciated and breeds customer loyalty.
TENA can support you with general incontinence information, tips and advice, product details and selection guides.
Getting to know your customers
People tend not to talk about their incontinence. So it’s difficult to know how many of your customers are affected. Here, we hope you can get an idea.
Throughout the world, it is estimated that there are over 450 million people affected by incontinence to some degree. That means 1in 3 women and 1 in 8 men will be affected at some stage during their lives.
Despite new attitudes, fewer taboos and continued research in the field, prejudice still surrounds the subject. Many people still believe it is only the elderly who are incontinent. With a growing population of elderly, who live longer, we are inevitably seeing an increasing number of people affected. But in reality, incontinence can happen to anybody. Incontinence exists among children, men and women of all ages.
