Tips and Advice

Our aim at TENA is to foster individual care.   We believe it is extremely important to get the right solution for each person.  We are also committed to ensuring that each person can afford the best possible continence care and so we are passionate about balancing care and costs.

Cost and Care

We know that inefficient use of our products can result in larger expenses for the patient, decreased quality of life, and a larger impact on the environment.

Our people are passionate about making sure your patients get the most out of our product.  That starts with proper product selection.  That's why we have developed a range of products with varied absorbancy rates.  By selecting a product with too little absorbency for the amount of urine produced, the patient is going to incur a larger expense because they will change pads more frequently and may continue to have leakage issues.  If an over absortant product for a patient is chosen, a patient might just be paying for too much product.

Within these pages you will find informaiton on our product range, a product finder, how to sample for customers, where to buy our product and best fitting techniques.   At TENA like you we want to find the best fit for each person, and we also want to ensure that person is getting the best value for their money, that's why we will teach you how to ensure customers have the right product, are using the minumum amout of product they can and how to access our products at the cheapest rate.

The correct fitting of TENA products can be critical to the comfort and security of any given product

A great idea for all products is to ensure first they have a bowl shape to them this ensures a closer fit to the body and gives a great area for the urine to be delivered into.  To achieve this, fold the product in half lengthwise and then for heavier products ensure leg guards are standing up.

For our heaviest capacity products, TENA provides fitting guides on our packaging.

  • How to detect Hidden Incontinence

Incontinence can be difficult for some people to discuss and therefore it is useful to know what to look for to determine if someone is trying to hide incontinence issues

There are some basic conditions and medications that are linked with incontinence.  For instance, Urge incontinence is strongly associated with prostate disease in men.  Women comprise over 70% of those affected by incontinence, and can be associated with pregnancy and childbirth, as well as menopause.

In the home

Incontience can be a very tricky topic to detect in a home visit patient, and even more difficult to discuss.  According to the Continence Foundation of Australia,  65% of women and 30% of men report some type of urinary incontinence, yet only 31% of these people report having sought help from a health professional.

If you are someone who home visits as part of your job then evidence of incontinence can be found in odour in the home, reluctance to go out, constant washing, discoloured underwear, plastic on couches and beds.   For help on how to discuss incontinence see How to discuss and What to look for
